Experienced Coaches and Mentors

Justin Storn is an Ohio Chess Champion and National Chess Master (NM) who has been competing for over 12 years and teaching for more than 8. He holds an official USCF rating of 2300. Justin is very passionate about teaching chess and has led an Ohio Chess Coaching Seminar.
In his free time, Justin enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and playing sand volleyball. Since the passing of the late Jay Warren, Justin has taken on a more organizational role with Thunder Chess, while remaining active as a coach.

Amogh Tripathi is an Ohio High School Champion and National Chess Master (NM) with an official USCF rating of 2250. Amogh is a very experienced teacher, teaching for over 5 years and leading chess workshops in 3 different countries! In addition to coaching, he was 6th in the nation for 12th graders.
Outside of chess, Amogh is an ultimate frisbee enthusiast (co-captain for a top 10 team in the state). He remains very active in the chess community, starting and leading the Northeast Ohio Chess Club.

Robert has been teaching chess for a long time and is effective. He excels at teaching the principles and fundamentals of chess. He is a FIDE-rated Expert and an active tournament player, and is known for helping others enjoy the game. Robert’s first student (Justin Storn) went on to become a National Master and Ohio Champion.
Robert works as a Chess Instructor in several after-school chess programs. Robert also organizes popular chess meetups and tournaments in Cincinnati.

Bryan is a full-time chess coach in Cincinnati with 7 years of teaching experience. With time spent in both the classroom and one-on-one lessons. From ages 4 to 94, Bryan has helped hundreds of players of all ages learn and improve at the game of chess. Bryan’s current USCF rating is over 1800, and he has the goal of becoming a chess master. He is a former U1800 State champion.
Bryan is a huge fan of chess history. He uses his knowledge of great players, tournaments, matches, and games when creating his lesson plans. He enjoys sharing this information to deepen the appreciation we all have for this great game.
